The Tata super app now has a name

Mumbai: Natarajan Chandrasekaran, chairman of Tata Sons Pvt. Ltd., has given senior employees a sneak peek at the Tata super app ahead of its pilot run among 7 lakh employees of India’s largest conglomerate, The Times of India reported.

A closed user base has begun beta testing the app and it will be accessed by all employees in phases over the next few months, ET reported on Sept. 25. The commercial launch is still some months away as several pieces are yet to fall into place, the TOI report said.

Called TataNeu, the Tata super app will upon launch become a one-stop destination for all online services of the salt-to-software group. While some group brands like BigBasket, 1mg, Taj Hotels, Croma and AirAsia have boarded the app, others such as Titan, Tanishq, Cliq and Starbucks are yet to do so, according to the TOI report. TataNeu will have a new loyalty program wherein customers can earn points redeemable for any other purchases made on the platform.

Tata is also weighing adding a neobank and an online cosmetics store to the super app, according to multiple ET reports.

While the Tata Group is the first to get the ball rolling on a super app, a Bank of America report released in August said, “India has the potential to have 3-4 super apps”. One of the appealing features of a super app is that it cleans up a smartphone’s home screen, a valuable piece of digital real estate.
