  • Commander Craig: 007 actor made honorary Royal Navy officer – the same rank held by Bond
  • Can’t wait for Bond: Over 175,000 tickets sold for ‘No Time to Die’ at UK’s Odeon cinemas
  • As Daniel Craig plays Bond for fifth & last time, will the next 007 be a female?

For 007 fans, the wait is over. Finally! Come Friday, and James Bond returns to the big screen. The return, a bit-of-a-delayed one thanks to the pandemic, will see Daniel Craig doing his swansong as Ian Fleming’s agent on the silver screen. And before Bond hits the theatres on October 1, there is a high-tech gig happening in London to mark the arrival of the world’s famous spy. In sync with a fast-growing digital world, the world premiere of ‘No Time to Die’ will stream exclusively on Facebook, Variety magazine reported on Monday.

Facebook has reportedly gained access to the live red carpet that is happening at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Tuesday, September 28. The social media platform will broadcast the event on both Facebook and through Oculus Venues, an experiential space for the Facebook-backed Oculus VR headset. Hosted by presenter Clara Amfo, the event will have plenty of Facebook written over it – thanks to its social video tools, live comments, captioning and Q&As. The film, of course, won’t be livestreamed as MGM, which has been bought by Amazon now, would want to lure audiences back to the theatres after all! The film was originally slated to debut in April 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic played spoilsport and pushed its release to November. With no headway in the Covid situation, the film had to be pushed further back to April 2021. In January, the film was delayed again to October, and now premieres in the UK on Friday and on Oct. 8 in the U.S. In India, Bond hits the screens, shaken and stirred, on Friday along with the UK itself.

An immersive experience will allow Oculus users to access the red carpet live stream through the updated ‘Oculus Venues’ app. Facebook has also launched an interactive AR filter on Instagram – another Facebook-owned entity – which will give fans a chance to put themselves in the James Bond opening sequence.‘No Time To Die’, directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, will be Craig’s last outing as Bond. The 44-year-old American director in recent interviews has mentioned that whoever steps into Carig’s shoes will have a tough job ahead and it will be foolhardy for the next James Bond to try to emulate Daniel Craig.

The 53-year-old Craig is hanging up his Bond boots after five 007 encounters in a role spanning 16 years. And for many like Fukumaga, as the blonde Bond, Craig was seen as someone who ‘modernised’ the character with his mix of brutality and sensitivity. All eyes next on who will step into those shoes for James Bond movie No 26!
