Freshworks – which has raised funding from investors like Accel and Sequoia Capital – had announced the pricing of its IPO of 28,500,000 shares of Class A common stock at USD 36 per share.11 years before its big IPO, the now San Mateo, California-headquartered software as a service (SaaS) company, was a 700 ft warehouse in Chennai, called Freshdesk, founded by Girish Mathrubootham and Shan Krishnasamy.Mathrubootham’s LinkedIn profile says that “between a broken TV and a random comment about help desk pricing” he envisioned and co-founded the company in 2010 to create a better way to service and delight customers. Last month, as the company – that now operates in 13 global locations – filed for the IPO, Mathrubootham had penned a heartwarming note to mark the milestone, that came with a special mention for superstar Rajinikanth. The tech boss explained that the code name for the IPO was ‘Project SuperStar’ – after Thalaiva.”I want to express my love and gratitude to him for being my maanaseega guru. There is no comparable English word to express what this means. It is a mentor; a role model that lives in your mind, from whom you learn a lot by watching from afar. Superstar is a man who is loved and worshipped by millions of fans globally. He is immensely successful yet humble and down to earth. Thank you, Thalaiva!,” Mathrubootham had written. In addition to be being an ardent Rajini fan, Mathrubootham is also a keen football supporter, and founded FC Madras, a grassroots youth football club in Chennai, to promote talent and provide a positive outlet for local youth and teenagers through the sport.
